Celebritosity!
Amy WinehouseWelcome to Tabloid Tuesdays...or, what I have coined as Celebritosity! Formerly Celebutants, but I got SO over that term. It is too played out, kinda like bling bling and swagger. And you knows I likes to be on the forefront, hence, Celebritosity bitchessss! Today's topic is the memory that is Amy Winehouse. I dunno. I listened to her first album again today "Frank," and I guess I was nostalgic about miss beehive thang. What do you think? Will she make a big comeback? Or will she hang up her beehive for good? Seeing other Winehouse wanna be's like Adele for instance, and some other chick Gabriella who also sounds like her, it makes me think of her. Of course Adele is the less exciting, er um, less edgy version of Amy...come on Amy! Get yo' shit togetha'! It's tough, I guess. I know, it's tough, process is tough, and product, mmmm no mames, fuggedaboudit. Genius takes time, I understand Amy. And I will be waiting patiently for your healthy and prolific return.

Music Mondays! The E.N.D.

"The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies) by Black Eyed Peas
Happy Music Mondays! Next time somebody asks you if you have a bad case of the "Mondays" you can say hells yeah! 'Cause it's all about the music baby! And "I gotta feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night!" This new installment by the kings (and queen) of the pop charts took off with a "boom" with their first hit single "Boom Boom Pow." They played that shit on heavy rotation! Great song, great energy and I love when Fergie says "I'm so 3008. You're 2000 and late!" Makes me smile every time. Their second single off this album is "I Gotta Feeling" and I am feelin' it! Very happy-go-lucky-getting-ready-for-the-party-or-club type of song.
Overall, I thought this album had high tempo, fun, party type of themes. Again, much like other artists nowadays who are relying on live shows more than record sales to make the mula, this album is completely catered for music that will make a stunning and energetic live performance. All the songs are about the good times and a couple where Fergie talks about how tipsy she is. Funny actually. In one song she "forgets the hook" because "she drank too much." "Meet Me Halfway" I thought was a good song too. I enjoyed all of the songs on this album except song two, "Rock That Body." I thought it was okay, I didn't like how they sampled and butchered Rob Base. You just don't do that to a classic.
The Black Eyes Peas have been around for a minute, but this is their third album with Miss Fergie and quite frankly, this band did not take off the way it has until she rolled up on the scene. So you know, she carries this band really. Her and Will.I.Am are a great team. And whether they put out more BEP albums, unless this is the "E.N.D.", or more solo albums again, I got a feeling that these music artists will be around for a while.
Pair some well-seasoned black eyed peas with some collard greens and mac and cheese, and you've got yourself an overstimulated palate.

Oh my Vanity

Gloria Swanson by Steichen
So earlier this year, LACMA had this Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs
1913–2008 exhibit of photographs past from this magazine. From back in the day when it was the original, and not the reincarnation that it is today. It was quite a while ago, but I do remember that there were some great photographs in this exhibit. I thought it was a comprehensive and inspiring exhibit documenting photographs all the way through today. I really enjoyed it. I remember this fabulous Gloria Swanson portrait. I remember a great photograph of Charlie Chaplin sans all the costume and how hot he was. And I remember a great shot of J-Lo's butt. I also remember we went upstairs after this exhibit to another one that was just bad. Bad contemporary photography work. Bad. Subjectively speaking of course. Of course!
Oh but let's not forget my favorite part of these fu-fu-rufu exhibits, the unsophisticated things that people say around me as I am trying to enjoy some sophisticated art. Peeps think I'm taking notes but I'm just laughing inside. Our Vanity Fair exhibit patrons enlightened us with this:
"Frida Kahlo. Wow! That's what Diego Rivera looked like?! Not very handsome."
"Georgia O'Keeffe. Look at her neck!"
Very old lady #1: "That's Lance Armstrong naked."
Very old lady #2: "Shame on you!"
Shame on this!
Remember to never take your crying infant stroller to the museum. It is in poor taste and gives motherhood a bad name. Period!
